Inside Hack AI: Empowering AI Projects for Real-World Solutions

The Hack AI event at Ohio State University, sponsored by 99P Labs, brought together 147 participants in 49 teams to explore the potential of artificial intelligence. Over two days, students were challenged to develop innovative AI solutions across two tracks: creating applications integrating AI models and developing machine learning models for housing price prediction. This hackathon provided a platform for students to apply their knowledge, collaborate with peers, and gain hands-on experience in AI development.

Participants received mentorship and guidance from experts at 99P Labs, which helped them navigate the complexities of AI technology and refine their projects. The event kicked off with a keynote address that set the tone for a weekend of intense coding, problem-solving, and creativity. Workshops and breakout sessions were held throughout the hackathon, covering topics such as AI ethics, model training, and data visualization, ensuring that participants had the resources they needed to succeed.

One of the standout projects was ZoomGage, the winning AI application that analyzed student engagement during remote learning sessions. This tool provided valuable insights into student participation and attention levels, helping educators adapt their teaching methods to better suit virtual environments. The second-place team developed BookWorm, an AI-powered educational tool aimed at improving reading comprehension skills among young students. By providing real-time feedback and personalized guidance, BookWorm helped teachers track and enhance their students' progress.

Another notable project was SeeFood, a mobile app designed by the third-place team to assist individuals with food allergies. Using AI, SeeFood provided personalized dietary information and alerts, making it easier for users to manage their allergies and make safe food choices. These projects highlighted the diverse applications of AI and demonstrated how technology can address real-world challenges in education, health, and beyond.

Hack AI concluded with a showcase of the top three projects from each track, recognizing the participants' creativity, technical skills, and ability to apply AI to practical problems. The event not only celebrated the achievements of the students but also emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. By providing a supportive environment and access to expert mentorship, Hack AI empowered students to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve and inspired them to continue exploring the possibilities of this transformative technology.
