Exploring MakeOHI/O: Reimagining Mobility Through Innovation

The MakeOHI/O makeathon, sponsored by 99P Labs, was held at Ohio State University, bringing together over 200 students to develop innovative projects focused on rethinking mobility through AI collaboration. This event aimed to inspire participants to explore new ways to enhance environmental perception, human-AI collaboration, and personalized mobility solutions. With guidance and mentorship from 99P Labs, students were equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to tackle real-world mobility challenges creatively and effectively.

Participants were encouraged to think outside the box and leverage cutting-edge technologies to create solutions that addressed various mobility issues. The makeathon featured workshops and breakout sessions covering topics such as AI-enhanced environmental perception, machine learning, and robotics. These sessions provided valuable insights and technical skills, helping participants to refine their project ideas and develop practical solutions that could be implemented in real-world scenarios.

One of the standout projects was the first-place winner, Team Banana Bread's Wi-Fi controlled car. This innovative project utilized machine learning models and algorithms to identify and quantify hazards, demonstrating how AI can enhance vehicle safety and navigation. Another impressive entry was Team No Sin Da Woo's "Hummingbird Walker," a device designed to aid visually impaired individuals by detecting obstacles in real-time using sensors. These projects showcased the participants' ability to apply AI technology to create impactful and meaningful solutions.

Team Make Magic's "ParkAssist" project also garnered significant attention. This AI-powered system used sensors and cameras to detect vehicles, analyze parking availability, and guide drivers to available spaces. By addressing common parking challenges, ParkAssist highlighted the potential of AI to improve urban mobility and reduce the stress associated with finding parking in crowded areas. The innovative approaches demonstrated by these teams underscored the importance of human-AI collaboration in solving complex mobility problems.

The MakeOHI/O makeathon concluded with the recognition of the top projects, including the first-place winner and three medalist teams. The event not only celebrated the creativity and technical skills of the participants but also emphasized the significance of collaboration and innovation in addressing mobility challenges. By providing a supportive environment and access to expert mentorship, MakeOHI/O empowered students to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve, inspiring them to continue exploring the possibilities of this transformative technology.
